The cable is only one part of the connection. Your router LAN port, modem or ONT port, switch port and computer network adapter must all support the same speed. If one part is slower, the connection will run at the slower speed.
If Windows or your router shows a 100 Mbps link speed while you expect 1 Gbps, the cause may be an old cable, damaged cable clip, loose connector, a 100 Mbps port, old network adapter, or router setting.

For gaming and video calls, a stable Ethernet connection often feels better than WiFi because it can reduce drops, interference and random latency spikes. Cat 6 is usually enough. For streaming and downloads, the internet plan and router port matter more than the cable category once the cable is good quality.
To test properly, connect your computer directly to the router with a short Cat 6 cable, close background downloads and run the speed test again. Compare download speed, upload speed and ping, not only the biggest Mbps number.
